4 Ondo timber dealers freed after ransom payment
Forty-eight hours after their kidnap, the four timber dealers, who have been kidnapped by gunmen in Edo State have recovered their freedom. A female dealer and the four lumber dealers were abducted at Ikakumo Akoko, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State on Saturday. The victims were said to be from Ikare Akoko in the Akoko North-East Local Government Area and indigenes of Akunu. While returning to Ondo State with the lorry in which they were travelling broke down on the road they were reportedly kidnapped.
A source said hours after the abduction, the kidnappers contacted the victims’ families and demanded N5m ransom, but their families begged them to decrease the amount. The amount which was eventually paid by these victims’ families couldn’t be ascertained. The Police Area Commander for Ikare Akoko,” Mr Razak Rauf, said he could not talk as it did not occur in the Ondo State Police Command’s jurisdiction.
He, however, stated that the command would not relent in its efforts to defend their state’s residents.
