Truck Hits Imo police officer on stop-and-search duty
A Policeman was on Wednesday was crushed to death by a pickup truck in Imo State, Nigeria while on stop-and-search duty.
Based on PunchNG, the event happened at Atta along Owerri Okigwe expressway in Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state.
The incident caused a traffic gridlock that was quite heavy on the expressway for hours as individuals surged into the scene of the event.
The corpse of the policeman was found on the floor, but gun wielding police operatives didn’t allow individuals to come near him.
Other vehicles and a trailer were found all around the scene of the event though it wasn’t clear as of the time of filing this particular report whether the pickup truck which killed the cop was among those parked in the arena.
A motorist told the correspondent of PunchNG how the heavy duty pickup truck crushed the officer after the cop had waved at it to stop.
He stated the trailer that had been moving at a very high speed rammed into the police officer that refused to leave the road.
A truck crushed him after he flagged it down but it refused to stop. The victim that was on a stop and search duty with his colleagues refused to work from the street. Some other police officers went after the killer truck and also its driver though I’m unsure if they could get him.
This is awful
When contacting, the police spoke sperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, stated “the command was told about the incident, but
We’ve only been told. I’m simply hearing it. The command is saddened by the unfortunate development”.
