Yakubu leads Team Nigeria to gold at CAT qualifier
The profile of fresh Nigerian teen tennis player, Nene Yakubu, has proceeded to grow as she freshly helped the nation to win a gold medal at the newly concluded West/Central Africa CAT qualifiers.
Yakubu, won her singles in the competition, was the captain of the country’s U 12 team. She also helped her teammates, Khadijat Mohammed and Success Ogunjobi, in the double as the nation qualified for the key CAT championship in Morocco later on in the season.
Yakubu won her singles game against Gabon 6-0, 6-0 before partnering with a teammate to gain the double with the very same scoreline. She also partnered with another teammate, made it 3-0 against Gabon with 6-0, 6-1 win in the various other individual game.

Against Sierra Leone, she received her singles 6 2, 6 1. Her doubles 6 3, 6 1 and her teammate won at 6-2, 6-2 for another 3 0 win for Nigeria.
5 countries played in the female category while 9 countries played in the boys’ group.
While the females emerged as the champions as they returned to the nation with the gold medal, the boys finished second with bronze medal.
